And 18.1 is ...

What a surprise we have taken ourselves in PICSIL this morning when seeing Sam Briggs using the Azor Grips In the presentation of 18.1 of the Open CrossFit Game 2018. We cannot be more proud of your performance and the final result of the first WOD of the world's classification to be the most form of the world.

What is 18.1?

If you are a fan of crossfit, Surely you have not slept tonight to see live the announcement of the exercise that will have to make in the next 4 days. Live of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, Dave Castro finally revealed the WOD that had us in embers and very intrigued since the publication in Your Instagram of the mysterious photo of a statue of a saint.
And on 18.1 is ... AMRAP of 20 min 8 toes -to -bar 10 Hang Clean & Jerk with Dumbbell (H: 22.5kg - m: 15kg) 14 - 12 remote calories
A resistance wod, very similar to 17.1, which needs, according to experts:
  • Control breathing and rhythm.
  • Make small pauses in rapid reps and transitions between exercises.
  • Take advantage of the rowing to relax the upper body and throw more legs, even if you go a little more slow, keep adding calories.
  • Maintain a good grip in the toes-to-bar and try not to lose your rhythm, even if you do one in one.
As you have seen in the live confrontation between "Los Bicps" by Sam Briggs and the Norwegian Kristin Holte, Maintaining rhythm is the key to adding more reps. Is it a matter of age?, Of experience?, Of knowing your body and your skills? Each one has their own strategy. Nevertheless, British's demonstrated this morning to be the most successful:
  • Maintain a constant rhythm.
  • Adapt to the rhythm of the rival (although Holte led the Wod at the beginning, Briggs reached it in the fifth round).
  • Take advantage of changes and rowing to rest
  • Be careful with No reps, especially with the dumbbell. This year's new standard is that you have to change the hand dumbbell at the level of the face and not above the head.
  • Listen to the judge and keep calm if he sings a No rep (The judge is your friend, he is there to help you do the WOD)
  • And be careful with the Hang Clean & Jerk: Briggs had to repeat the movement for making a complete clean when taking the dumbbell. First make a dead weight, and then run the Hang Clean from the hip.
Spoiler alert This is how the British has achieved victory in 18.1 adding A total 409 repetitions and almost complete 14 rounds. On the other hand, Holte has managed to add 379 REPS and a total of 13 non -complete rounds.

Do like Sam Briggs and USA Grips Azor Grips

Have you noticed the Grips Green that Briggs used on the first WOD of the Open CrossFit Games 2018?

Indeed, they are our unmistakable Azor Grips. And as we have said at the beginning, we cannot be more proud to see them in action, in the hands of a great athlete and in a live announcement. And we assure you that we are not at all behind it. According to the rules of CrossFit Games, You can use Grips or tape to protect your hands. But you can't use both. Be these, or any others Grips What we have in PICSIL, they will be very useful to face the toes-to-bar. They will help you keep your grip in the rack, link the REPS without your hands slipping through sweat and protect your hands from chafing and wounds. Also, the Grips They are a good ally for the dumbbell and the rowing Not to lose grip and, above all, not waste time to throw magnesium in your hands because of sweat.
